Scope of the Workshop

IMETUM and Nanosystems Initiative Munich, Atomic Force F&E and Asylum Research are pleased to announce the Euro AFM Forum 2009 to be held at the facilities of IMETUM at Garching near Munich. The Forum is organized for scientists to share and exchange their cutting-edge research in both materials and life science disciplines. The instrument workshops are designed so researchers can “ask an expert” and receive tips and tricks while getting hands-on instructions on the AFM. The Forum is an ideal venue for novice and veteran AFM researchers as well as those looking to get into the field.

Call For Abstracts

The Forum will be accepting submissions for both lectures and posters. Abstracts may be submitted online in the conference registration form. Deadline for submission is June 15. Acceptance for abstract submissions will be announced June 17. Prizes will be awarded for the three best posters.

Image Contest

Enter your best AFM image in the Forum image contest. An iPod Nano will be awarded for the best image that represents innovative science and has the “cool” factor. Please submit your images (jpg, TIFF, png) with a brief description via email to conference@atomicforce.de .

Instrument Workshop

In Hands-on Workshops scientists will be trained in small groups on a variety of AFM topics. Attendees may sign up for two workshop topics. Biology/Life Science will be alternating with Materials Science topics.

Tentative Topics Include:

  • Dual AC Mode
  • Electrical Characterization
  • IGOR Pro
  • High resolution, fast scanning at 20 Hz line rate

Registration

Conference registration fees per person, incl. VAT, lunch breaks, and the conference dinner are 119 € for students before June 15, and 238 € for faculty/industry/post docs. To keep the workshop effective, seats are limited and early registration is recommended! Online-registration will start on Tuesday, 14th of April 2009. Note that attendees are responsible for their own travel and accommodations. Hotel rooms at special rates can be booked through Atomic Force before May 15th. Afterwards, reservations can only be made with the local hotels at normal room rates.
